US conducts sixth consecutive day of airstrikes on Iran as tensions escalate

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) says the latest strikes were aimed at further degrading Iran’s military capabilities and weakening its defence infrastructure

WASHINGTON: (UrduPoint /UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 17th, 2026) The United States carried out a sixth consecutive day of airstrikes on targets in Iran, further escalating tensions between the two countries amid an ongoing military confrontation.

In a statement, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest strikes were aimed at further degrading Iran’s military capabilities and weakening its defence infrastructure.

According to Iranian media reports, one of the strikes targeted a key bridge in the coastal city of Bandar Khamir in Hormozgan Province during the night, causing extensive damage.

Iranian news outlets reported that seven people were killed and nine others injured in the attack. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, officials said.

Iran’s Tasnim News Agency further reported that a communications tower on a mountain near Bandar Abbas was struck during the attacks, causing power outages in parts of the city.

US officials did not disclose details of the individual targets, but CENTCOM said military operations would continue with the objective of reducing Iran’s military capabilities.

Iranian authorities said they were continuing to assess the full extent of the damage and casualties caused by the latest wave of airstrikes as the conflict between the two countries entered its sixth consecutive day.
