Upgradation work on dangerous school buildings begins: secretary education

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Feb, 2026) Secretary School Education Punjab Mudassir Riaz Malik has announced that the assessment of dangerous school buildings and unsafe classrooms across the province has been completed, and immediate upgradation and reconstruction work has already commenced to ensure a safe learning environment for students.

During his visit to Multan on Monday, he said that there will be zero tolerance for any negligence in improving the education system across the province, in line with the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

He said that the government was taking urgent steps to eliminate structural hazards in public schools. He emphasized that student safety remains the top priority and that no compromise will be made on the condition of school infrastructure.

Highlighting reforms in human resource management, the Secretary stated that teacher transfers will strictly be carried out on 100 percent merit. “No recommendation or external pressure will be tolerated in transfer postings,” he asserted, adding that transparency and accountability are being ensured at every level of the department.

He further directed that outsourced schools must be subjected to effective monitoring to maintain educational standards.

Sharing encouraging figures, he revealed that student enrollment has increased by 114 percent following the outsourcing initiative, terming it a positive indicator of improved school performance.

The secretary education also disclosed that construction of 25,000 new classrooms was underway across Punjab to address space shortages and rising enrollment. He said that Assistant Education Officers (AEOs) will be further activated for rigorous field monitoring to strengthen supervision of schools.

Addressing the issue of surplus teaching staff, he said that surplus teachers will be placed under the supervision of Directors of Education and assigned responsibilities related to monitoring and student evaluation. They will also be granted access to the official monitoring application to conduct assessments and support academic improvement.

He added that schools with fewer than 150 students or only three teachers have been identified for immediate outsourcing, as part of a broader strategy to enhance efficiency, governance, and learning outcomes in the public education sector.
