MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) An unusual spell of warmth is expected to sweep across both sides of the disputed Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 hours, as meteorological authorities forecast a sharp and unseasonal rise in temperatures. The State Meteorological Department (MeT) in Srinagar indicated that weather conditions would remain largely dry, therefore creating favourable circumstances for a developing heat spell across the region. The forecast covers areas on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), including Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to officials at the MeT Centre in Srinagar, mainly dry weather is likely to prevail over the coming days, while clear skies are expected to dominate the atmosphere. Consequently, daytime temperatures are predicted to climb noticeably above the seasonal average, and night temperatures may also register a gradual increase. Meteorologists stated that maximum temperatures could settle considerably higher than normal levels for early March, thus marking a significant departure from the typical climatic pattern.

Weather experts noted that the predicted rise sharply contrasts with the recent cold conditions experienced across the region last week. Independent forecaster Faizan Arif also told media in Srinagar that plains on both sides of the LoC may be affected more intensely, especially by the end of the week, when heatwave-like conditions could begin to develop. Moreover, the prolonged dry spell may intensify warming trends in the vulnerable low-lying areas of Jammu division and the Kashmir Valley.

Authorities, however, have advised residents to remain cautious and limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, while ensuring adequate hydration during the unusually warm days ahead. Experts said the dry and hot conditions could persist for several days, meanwhile raising concerns about potential impacts on standing crops and orchards across the fertile agricultural belt. Agricultural and weather authorities are closely monitoring the situation in order to assess the possible effects of the rising temperatures on the region’s farming sector.
