Umerkot reviews polio drive performance, steps up efforts to reach every child

UMERKOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) Special measures were taken to improve access to children during the recent anti-polio campaign in Umerkot, officials were informed during a post-campaign review meeting held to assess the performance of the May 2026 vaccination drive.

The meeting, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Javed Ahmed Dahri, was held at the Durbar Hall of the Deputy Commissioner's Office. It was attended by Chairman District Council Umerkot Haji Muhammad Baqa Palli, Assistant Commissioners Rajab Ali, Muhammad Khan, Sanjay Kumar and Ghulam Ali Tariq, District Health Officer Dr. Muhammad Ali, health officials, police representatives, officials from PPHI, Local Government and education departments, representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), Rotary Club members, district monitors and other stakeholders.

The objective of the meeting was to review the post-campaign situation, evaluate the performance of the May 2026 polio drive and formulate an effective strategy for future immunization campaigns.

District Polio Focal Person Dr. Vijay Kumar and health department officials gave a detailed briefing on campaign targets, child coverage, team performance, reasons for missed children and challenges faced by field teams. The meeting was informed that special initiatives had been undertaken to improve access to children during the campaign, while follow-up activities continued to ensure the vaccination of children who had initially been missed.

Addressing the participants, Additional Deputy Commissioner Javed Ahmed Dahri emphasized that close coordination among all relevant departments was essential for the complete eradication of polio. He directed authorities to ensure that every child is reached during future vaccination campaigns and stressed the need for special attention to areas where the likelihood of missed children remains high.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening immunization efforts and enhancing coordination to achieve a polio-free future for the district.
