Umar Hayat, Fayyaz Leghari win president, GS slots in HCBAM elections

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Mar, 2026) Chaudhry Umar Hayat and Fayyaz Hussain Laghari were elected President and General Secretary, respectively, of the High Court Bar Association Multan in its annual elections, according to unofficial and provisional results released here on Saturday.

For the president’s slot, Chaudhry Umar Hayat secured 3,326 votes to defeat his rival Syed Athar Hassan Shah Bukhari, who polled 1,896 votes.

A close contest was witnessed for the post of general secretary in which Fayyaz Hussain Laghari clinched victory with 2,737 votes against Chaudhry Zafarullah Waraich, who obtained 2,529 votes. Laghari thus won by a margin of 208 votes.

For the seat of vice president, six candidates were in the field.

Zahid Kabir Khakhi emerged successful with 1,388 votes. His opponents Chaudhry Imdad Hussain, Qaiser Ameer Khan, Nawab Muhammad Iqbal Khan Baloch, Mian Mehmood Ahmad Ansari and Muhammad Abrar Khan secured 1,240, 1,106, 277, 693 and 452 votes, respectively.

For the office of finance secretary, Chaudhry Nauman Ahmad was declared elected with 2,002 votes. His rivals Syed Murtaza Mehdi Bukhari and Syed Mohsin Abbas Kazmi got 1,669 and 1,496 votes, respectively.

Meanwhile, Amina Khan, Syed Hasnain Shah Gilani, Furqan Ahmad Khan, Sheikh Junaid Tariq, Mehr Ghulam Shabbir Sial, Syed Mubarak Ali Shah and Muhammad Ilyas had already been elected unopposed as members of the executive committee.
