UAF committed to ensure food security: VC Zulfiqar

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali has said that the university is committed to ensure food security, agriculture and rural development to meet national, regional and international needs with out-of-the-box solutions, tangible research work and trained manpower.

He addressed the UAF faculty during a meeting at Iqbal Auditorium over completion of his one year as Vice Chancellor. He said that in the current international scenario, the responsibility of agricultural scientists have boosted up for the food security noble cause.

He said that the university is preparing the manpower capable equipped with the modern skills to cater the industry demands and play due role in agrarian uplift. He said that all-out efforts are being made to drive the change that will transform its research, learning, innovation, and outreach to advance sustainable development.

He called for enhanced research mentorship, securing competitive funding and producing high-impact publication.

He said that UAF has implemented e-Filing system, e-tracking of files, operational efficiency, cost sustainability, data security and merit-based governance.

He said, "We are responsible to broaden UAF’s global engagement and extension efforts so we can effectively respond to emerging agricultural challenges and drive sustainable progress."

He urged the faculty members to come up with innovative ideas and tangible research works to address the agricultural challenges.

He said that in 2025, the university research portfolio has increased to Rs 200 million and coordinated efforts should be made to further increase in 2026.

He said that university is striving hard to ensure best manpower and solution-oriented research as a step towards agricultural uplift.
