Two robbers killed in police encounter

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th May, 2026) At least two armed robbers involved in murder and attempted murder cases were killed during an exchange of fire with police in the Saddar Bairooni area after escaping from Rawat Police custody, police said on Friday.

According to police, the robbers, identified as Ashfaq and Abad, escaped from Rawat Police custody with the help of accomplices shortly before the encounter.

After fleeing, they allegedly snatched a citizen’s vehicle at gunpoint in the Saddar Bairooni area and attempted to escape.

Saddar Bairooni patrolling police signaled the suspicious vehicle to stop, but the robbers opened fire on the police party. During the ensuing shootout, both suspects were killed.

Police said that the deceased robbers were wanted in connection with a firing incident in the Rawat area four months ago, in which a security guard was killed and several others were injured.

Senior police officers reached the scene soon after the incident, while a search operation was launched to arrest the accomplices who managed to flee.

City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani praised SP Saddar, ASP Saddar, and the Saddar Bairooni police team for their “bravery and professional response” during the encounter. “Those who attack citizens and police personnel cannot escape the grip of the law,” the CPO added.
