RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Mar, 2026) Two faculty members of Rawalpindi Women University (RWU) have earned international recognition by securing a place in the Top 2 per cent Scientists list for 2024, compiled by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.
According to the university press release, Dr. Benazir Ahsan Abbasi, Assistant Professor at the Department of Botany, and Dr. Javeria Amin, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Sciences, were honoured with certificates at a ceremony organised by the Higher education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).
The global ranking is based on research citations, academic impact and scientific performance at the international level.
Dr. Benazir Ahsan Abbasi received the recognition for her research contributions in nanobiotechnology, phytochemistry, molecular markers, tissue culture and bioinformatics. Dr. Javeria Amin was acknowledged for her work in image processing, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The HEC recently organised a ceremony in Islamabad to recognise the achievements of 118 faculty members from Rawalpindi, Islamabad and surrounding regions who were included in the prestigious global ranking.
Speaking on the occasion, Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, congratulated the researchers and described them as “the stars of the nation”.
The Stanford Top 2 per cent Scientists list is considered one of the most credible indicators of global research excellence, and inclusion in the ranking is regarded as a significant honour for researchers worldwide. The inclusion of women scientists from RWU reflects their dedication and also highlights the importance of providing a supportive academic environment for achieving international recognition.
