Two held as PFA destroys substandard meat,soda water in raids

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd May, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) arrested two individuals and destroyed large quantities of unsafe food during a crackdown against adulteration,officials said on Saturday.

During the operation,a water filtration plant was sealed, while around two maunds of unfit meat, 216 liters of substandard soda water and over one maund of various food items were disposed of.

A case was registered against Amir and Patras Masih allegedly involved in the preparation and supply of substandard meat.

PFA Director General Syed Musa Raza said a water plant was found producing substandard soda water that failed to meet prescribed standards, leading to its confiscation.

He said the authority conducted inspections of 126 food points and production units across Lahore Division,imposing fines worth Rs.333,000 on 15 outlets over poor hygiene and violations of food safety laws.

The DG added that inspections revealed inadequate cleanliness arrangements and the presence of insects at several restaurants, posing serious health risks.

He said, under directives of the Chief Minister Punjab,action against the food fraud mafia would continue under a zero-tolerance policy with strict enforcement of food safety regulations.
