LAHORE:

Two police constables were arrested for allegedly robbing a citizen at a fake checkpoint in a housing scheme, while their accomplice escaped.

According to police and the complainant, three uniformed policemen riding an unregistered motorcycle had allegedly been setting up unauthorised checkpoints at different locations over the past several days and robbing citizens under the pretext of searching them.

A victim, Ehtesham Zafar, alleged that the suspects had stopped him near Khayaban-e-Amin, subjected him to a prolonged search, threatened to kill him and demanded Rs500,000. He claimed the suspects kept him in his own vehicle for several hours before withdrawing Rs86,000 through his two ATM cards and later abandoning him near Thokar Niaz Baig.

Following the victim's call to the Police Helpline 15 and the availability of evidence, Kahna police registered a case and arrested Constable Ali Hassan, posted at Sunder police station, and Constable Kabir Ali of Garden Town PS. Their alleged accomplice Sajjad escaped.
