Rocket and drone attack targets Baghdad airport complex

Washington/Baghdad (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-March 16th, 2026) US President Donald Trump said that while the United States is engaging in talks with Iran, he does not believe Tehran is ready to negotiate.

Trump said the US is also in discussions with seven countries regarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz, urging them to assist in safeguarding this critical waterway. He noted that Israel is cooperating with the US to ensure the Strait remains secure.

According to a British newspaper, Trump warned that NATO’s future could be in jeopardy if the alliance does not assist in maintaining access to the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump also mentioned that his scheduled meeting with Chinese President later this month could be delayed.

He indicated that he would only proceed with the meeting if China helps ensure the safe operation of shipping and trade through the Strait.

International Airport was hit by a coordinated attack involving rockets and drones, targeting a logistics support camp near the airport, security sources told Al Jazeera Media Network.

The area was struck with five rockets in addition to the drone attack. Officials are assessing the full extent of the damage and casualties.

Security sources noted that in a previous similar attack, five people were injured.

The authorities are investigating the incident and monitoring the area for further threats, amid ongoing regional tensions.
