Trump claims Iran asked for access to Strait of Hormuz to avoid collapse

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has claimed in a social media statement that Iran’s current leadership has itself informed the United States about its weakened position amid the ongoing situation in the country.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that Iran is “in a state of destruction” and is facing severe pressure, adding that Iranian officials have indicated internal leadership challenges.

He further claimed that Iran wants the United States to help ensure the immediate lifting of any blockade on the Strait of Hormuz in order to restore the flow of trade and oil supplies in the region.

Trump added that despite the serious challenges Iran is facing, he believes the country will eventually manage to overcome its internal difficulties.
