Trump announces major US operation against Iran, vows to destroy missile industry

President Trump says objective of operation was to eliminate threats emanating from Iranian government and to defend the American people

Washington / Tehran: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Feb 28th, 2026) US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the United States has launched a major military operation against Iran, vowing to dismantle its missile industry and naval forces and to ensure Tehran does not acquire nuclear weapons.

In a video statement shared on the social media platform Truth Social, President Trump said the objective of the operation was to eliminate threats emanating from the Iranian government and to defend the American people.

“A short while ago, the US military began a large-scale operation against Iran,” he said. “Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. We will destroy Iran’s missile systems and missile industry, and we are going to eliminate its navy.”

President Trump added that the United States would take all necessary measures to ensure Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons and claimed that Washington had acted to reduce risks to American personnel deployed in the region.

He also called on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to surrender, saying they would be treated well with full immunity if they laid down their arms, or otherwise face certain death.

The announcement comes amid joint US and Israeli military action against Iran. According to reports, strikes have been carried out from both air and sea by US forces, while Israel has continued aerial operations.

Missile strikes were reported in several Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Qom and Karaj. Smoke was seen rising from parts of the capital, Tehran.

Following the attacks, Iran closed its airspace to all air traffic and warned the United States and Israel to prepare for what it described as the harshest possible response.
