QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Feb, 2026) Quetta Authorities have announced a series of immediate and long-term measures to improve the city’s traffic management system, with a special focus on easing chronic congestion at Serena Chowk.

The decisions were taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Quetta Division Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar, attended by Deputy Commissioner Mehrullah Badini, Divisional Director Development Zahoor Ahmed, SSP Traffic Police Mirza Bilal, Director of the Balochistan Traffic Engineering Bureau Shakeel Ahmed, Deputy PD QDP Abid Ali, DSP Traffic Police Saifullah, and representatives from the Metropolitan Corporation and the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Quetta.

Officials reviewed the growing traffic volumes across the city, particularly the persistent gridlock at Serena Chowk, a key intersection that regularly experiences heavy congestion. The bottleneck has been causing significant inconvenience to commuters, especially during school hours and peak office times.

To address these challenges, the meeting resolved to implement immediate measures to improve traffic flow. Special arrangements will be introduced during school opening and closing hours, as well as peak office periods, to minimize delays and ensure smoother commuting for residents.

A dedicated committee has been constituted to conduct an on-site inspection of Serena Chowk and submit practical recommendations along with a comprehensive report to resolve congestion issues.

Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar directed all relevant departments to strengthen inter-agency coordination, modernize traffic management practices, and increase personnel deployment at major intersections. He emphasized that public convenience must remain the top priority in planning and operations.

The commissioner noted that improving traffic flow would not only ease daily life for citizens but also enhance the overall orderliness and aesthetic appeal of Quetta. He announced that a comprehensive and sustainable traffic strategy would be formulated, with phased implementation to ensure long-term results.

Authorities expressed confidence that coordinated efforts among civic and law enforcement agencies would significantly improve mobility and reduce congestion across the city in the coming months.
