Tourist van blaze on Murree Expressway leaves six dead, multiple injured

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) At least six people, including women were killed and several others, including children, sustained severe burn injuries when a tourist van caught fire on the Khajut section of the Murree Expressway on Wednesday.

Motorway Police said the vehicle was engulfed in flames, prompting an immediate emergency response.

Officials added that the doors were reportedly locked as the fire spread, trapping passengers inside the van carrying tourists, local media news channel reported.

Personnel from the Motorway Police and the Murree administration rushed to the scene shortly after the incident and launched rescue and relief operations to control the fire and evacuate the injured.

According to a Motorway Police spokesperson, the fire has now been brought under control and fully extinguished. Rescue teams are continuing efforts at the site while assessing the extent of the damage and the number of people affected.

Motorway Police further stated that there are fears of multiple casualties, although no official confirmation of the death toll has been released. Several injured including women and children victims have been shifted to PIMS Hospital Islamabad, while others are being treated at local hospitals.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Further details are awaited as rescue and assessment operations continue.
