ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) The authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AKJK) launched an extensive beautification initiative aimed at promoting tourism in the scenic lake city of Mirpur, the officials sources said on Monday.
The plan focuses on upgrading key infrastructure along the Mangla–Mirpur Road, a major gateway to the region. The measures included tree plantation along both sides and the median of the highway, restoration of street lighting, and the removal of roadside waste dumps,they added.
The officials said the initiative was intended to enhance the city’s appeal to both domestic and international visitors, positioning the region as a leading tourists' destination in the Himalayan belt.
The senior officials, led by Commissioner, Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan and Deputy Inspector General , Police, Dr Khalid Mahmood Chauhan, conducted an inspection of the key sites.
The visit reviewed proposals to widen the road into four lanes to improve traffic flow to and from the Mangla Entry Point.
The plans are also under way to upgrade Chitturpari Ground, where facilities for cricket, football, volleyball and walking tracks are expected to be developed. The authorities also ordered measures to secure and improve nearby public park areas.
The officials said immediate steps would be taken to clear garbage at key points including Y Cross and Chattarpuri, alongside efforts to protect government and WAPDA land and expand green spaces.
Further proposals include redesigning the Mangla entry point, with additional traffic lanes for freight, passenger and smaller vehicles, as well as improved signage aimed at presenting a welcoming image to visitors arriving in the city.
