RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) Punjab Emergency Operations Centre Coordinator, Rana Adil Tasawur on Wednesday said that polio was an incurable but preventable disease and ensuring vaccination of every child was essential to protect them from lifelong disability.
In a statement issued here, he said that polio could cause permanent paralysis in children, however, timely vaccination could provide complete protection against the disease. He urged parents to ensure that all children under five years of age were administered anti-polio drops during every campaign.
He reminded that the ongoing anti-polio drive across Punjab was continuing with full vigour, adding that frontline health workers were visiting door-to-door despite extreme heat and harsh weather conditions to vaccinate children.
Rana Adil underlined that health teams were working with commitment to ensure that no child was left unvaccinated. He added that more than 3.3 million children had so far been administered polio drops during the ongoing campaign across the province.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He said that the Punjab government and the health department were utilising all available resources to eradicate polio, adding that a strict monitoring mechanism had also been put in place in every district.
He pointed out that the poliovirus spread through contaminated water, poor sanitation and unsafe environments, emphasising that vaccination remained the most effective protection against the disease. He added that repeated doses during each campaign helped strengthen children’s immunity.
He urged parents to contact the helpline 1166 if their child had missed vaccination so that health teams could revisit and administer the drops.
He reaffirmed that the government, health department, World Health Organization (WHO) and other partner institutions were making concerted efforts to make Pakistan polio-free and to safeguard future generations from the disease.
