ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 19th, 2026) A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Tuesday sentenced Umar Hayat to death in the murder case of TikToker Sana Yousaf after finding him guilty of the crime.
Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka announced the reserved verdict in the high-profile case during proceedings held at the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad.
The court ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven the charges against the accused and awarded him the death penalty. In addition to capital punishment, the court also imposed various prison terms and fines under other sections of the law.
According to the verdict, Umar Hayat was sentenced to a total of 30 years imprisonment and fined Rs2.4 million. The court handed him three separate 10-year prison terms under different charges, including robbery and trespassing into the victim’s house.
During the hearing, the prosecution presented call records and screenshots of chats allegedly linked to the accused as part of the evidence.
The complainant’s counsel requested the court to award the death penalty on two counts, while the defence counsel argued that the accused had previously expressed lack of confidence in both the state counsel and the trial court.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The defence further informed the court that two related petitions were pending before the Islamabad High Court.
The defence lawyer maintained that the accused was entitled to a fair trial under Article 10-A of the Constitution and urged the court not to allow public pressure or social debate to influence the verdict.
At one point during the proceedings, the court expressed displeasure over remarks made by the defence counsel and directed him not to mislead the court.
A day earlier, the accused had denied the charges during his statement before the court and rejected allegations of confessing to the crime. He also denied having any contact with Sana Yousaf.
During questioning, the court referred to a phone number saved under the name “Kaka” in the victim’s mobile phone, which investigators claimed matched the accused after forensic analysis. Umar Hayat responded that he would not answer without his lawyer present.
Sana Yousaf was murdered at her residence in Islamabad on June 2, 2025. The accused, Umar Hayat, was arrested the following day from Jaranwala.
