Three held for setting woman on fire

MUZAFFARGARH, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) Police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested three people allegedly

involved in setting a woman on fire over a domestic dispute in Tehsil Jatoi.

The incident occurred in Basti Wani, Mouza Bibi Pur, Tehsil Jatoi,

where a "watta satta" (exchange marriage) dispute allegedly turned

violent.

According to police, 28-year-old Fauzia Bibi was doused in petrol

and set on fire by her brothers-in-law, led by accused Niaz, over a

domestic and exchange marriage conflict.

The suspects attempted to stage the attack as a suicide but failed.

On information, police and rescue-1122 teams reached the scene

promptly.

Rescue officials confirmed that approximately 90 percent of the

victim's body has been burnt. She was provided first aid before

being shifted to the Burns Unit of Nishtar Hospital, Multan in critical

condition.

On the orders of District Police Officer, Shahar Sultan Police have

arrested accused Niaz along with his two accomplices.

Investigation was underway.
