Three held after nine-year-old girl dies in Batapur water park incident

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jul, 2026) Lahore Police arrested three officials of a private water park in Batapur after a nine-year-old girl died when she was pulled into an uncovered drainage pipe while swimming in a pool, a police spokesperson said on Monday.

According to the spokesperson for DIG Operations Lahore, the water park administration allegedly started draining water from the pool while the child was still inside. The main drainage opening had been left uncovered, and the strong suction created by the flowing water pulled the girl into the drainage pipe, where she became trapped.

Rescue efforts were launched immediately, but the child could not survive.

Police registered a case at Batapur Police Station on the complaint of the victim's mother.

The spokesperson said the arrested suspects included the water park's manager, CCTV in-charge and security in-charge. Further investigation was under way to determine the negligence and responsibility of the management in the incident.
