Tender process begins for upgradation of Sargodha fruit, vegetable market

SARGODHA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) The tender for the long-awaited rehabilitation and upgradation of Sargodha’s central Fruit and Vegetable Market, costing Rs602.4 million, was formally opened on Thursday, marking a major step towards modernizing one of the region’s key commercial hubs.

According to the spokesperson for the DC office here, the project has been launched under the special directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with the support of Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman and the special interest of Director General of the Punjab Agricultural Marketing Regulatory Authority (PAMRA), Zeeshan Nasrullah Ranjha.

The development scheme includes the construction of a modern sewerage system, rehabilitation of roads, construction of a boundary wall, installation of entry and exit gates, and the provision of other essential infrastructure facilities within the market.

Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhry said the project would significantly improve facilities for traders, commission agents, shopkeepers and buyers while enhancing the overall infrastructure and operational efficiency of the market.

He noted that the upgradation of the Fruit and Vegetable Market had been a long-standing demand of the local business community. The district administration, he added, maintained close coordination with relevant departments and pursued the matter vigorously to secure approval and funding for the project.

Following the opening of the tender, all legal and administrative formalities will be completed on a priority basis, after which construction work will commence.

Chaudhry stated that the district administration and concerned departments were committed to ensuring the timely and high-quality completion of the project, with a target date of December 2026.

He said the scheme would help address longstanding issues related to sanitation, drainage and traffic flow, while creating a more efficient and business-friendly environment for market stakeholders.
