Syedaal Khan stresses higher education, cultural harmony, institutional reforms

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) Deputy Chairman of the Senate Syedaal Khan on Wednesday held separate meetings at the Parliament House in Islamabad with various prominent personalities, government officials, representatives of educational institutions, social and media figures, and delegations.

The meetings focused on key national issues, including institutional reforms, promotion of higher education, cultural harmony, austerity measures, and the overall political and social situation of the country.

Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting and Managing Director Pakistan Television Corporation, Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil, called on the Deputy Chairman of the Senate.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the performance of national broadcasting institutions, ongoing reforms, and steps to align these institutions with modern requirements.

Syedaal Khan appreciated the role of Pakistan Television Corporation and Radio Pakistan, stating that both institutions play a vital role in public awareness, education, and promotion of national consciousness.

He said ptv has consistently contributed to national unity, cultural harmony, and projecting a positive national image, while serving as an effective source of information, education, and entertainment, including in remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

MD PTV Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil briefed him on ongoing institutional reforms, expansion of digital platforms, and initiatives through PTV World to project Pakistan’s image globally.

The Deputy Chairman of the Senate expressed satisfaction over PTV’s performance and noted that national institutions are playing an important role in promoting regional languages, cultures, and traditions.

In another meeting, the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan called on the Deputy Chairman of the Senate. The meeting discussed promotion of higher education in Balochistan, establishment of new universities, provision of educational facilities, research development, and improvement of digital systems.

Syedaal Khan said providing quality and modern educational opportunities to the youth of Balochistan was essential for national development and stability. He stressed strengthening existing institutions through modern research facilities, improved infrastructure, digital resources, and advanced teaching tools.

The HEC chairman briefed him on ongoing initiatives, including capacity building of universities and the online degree verification system. The Deputy Chairman of the Senate appreciated the efforts and called for stronger measures to expand higher education nationwide.

In a separate meeting, a delegation led by former Federal Minister Ghalib Khan and former Deputy Attorney General Farooq Khan Nasir met the Deputy Chairman of the Senate.

Discussions were held on national affairs, public welfare, economic conditions, and policy proposals.

Syedaal Khan appreciated the federal government’s austerity campaign, saying fiscal prudence had become essential in the current economic and regional circumstances.

He said the Senate fully supports financial discipline and the government’s savings programme.

Renowned artist Wasil Shahid also met the Deputy Chairman of the Senate and discussed his artwork and creative projects.

The Deputy Chairman of the Senate appreciated the role of art and artists, saying fine arts play an important role in promoting cultural identity, heritage, and positive social values.

He said creative expression reflects Pakistan’s cultural beauty and serves as a medium for promoting peace, tolerance, and national harmony. He also accepted an invitation to attend an art exhibition scheduled for August and extended his best wishes for the event.
