Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei killed in US-Israeli strikes

The Supreme Leader has been martyred at his office during the assault.

TEHRAN: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 1st, 2026) Iranian state media have reported that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in recent US and Israeli strikes on the country.

According to official Iranian media, Ayatollah Khamenei was killed during American and Israeli attacks carried out on Saturday.

The reports said the Supreme Leader was martyred at his office during the assault.

State media further announced seven days of public holidays and 40 days of national mourning across Iran following his reported death.

Ayatollah Khamenei had served as Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989, succeeding Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini after his death.

Iranian state media also claimed that Khamenei’s daughter and grandson were killed in the attacks. It added that his son-in-law and daughter-in-law were also among those reported dead.

Earlier, Israeli media had claimed that the Iranian Supreme Leader was sheltering in an underground bunker along with close aides and that around 30 bombs were dropped on his compound. Reports further alleged that dozens of his associates were killed in the strikes.

Israeli outlets also claimed that an image of Khamenei’s body was shown to the US president. British media, citing Israeli officials, reported that his body had been recovered.

In a video statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there were indications that Iran’s Supreme Leader was no longer alive. He also claimed that commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had been killed, the Supreme Leader’s compound destroyed, and senior nuclear officials eliminated. He warned that thousands of additional targets could be struck in the coming days and that operations against Iran would continue as long as necessary.

It is noteworthy that the United States and Israel carried out naval and aerial strikes on Iran a day earlier, reportedly killing 201 Iranian citizens and injuring 747 others.

According to reports, Iran’s Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps chief Mohammad Pakpour were also reported killed in the attacks.
