QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) Inspector General (IG) of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir on Thursday said that in addition to counter-terrorism and maintaining law and order situation, Balochistan Police is working with all law enforcement agencies to combat smuggling, drugs and crime.
He said this while addressing at a ceremony held at the Central Police Office to hand over 24 non-custom vehicles worth Rs 8 crore to Collector Customs Balochistan Dr Karam Elahi by the Balochistan Police. Senior police and customs officers were also present on the occasion.
IG Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir said that an ongoing campaign is underway against the use and sale of non-custom-paid vehicles.
While joint operations of police and customs were also implemented on the internal routes to prevent their free movement, he said that the use of non-customs paid vehicles is often seen involved in illegal activities, which often face legal problems due to the lack of records from the police and excise.
Addressing the meeting, Collector Customs Balochistan Dr Karam Elahi praised the Balochistan Police for practically fulfilling its joint responsibility with all law enforcement agencies and said that in addition to illegal activities, non-customs paid vehicles are being used for smuggling,
He said that while non-customs paid vehicles are causing billions of rupees of loss to the national exchequer annually.
He mentioned that in addition to preventing smuggling, Pakistan Customs has started a crackdown campaign under a joint action plan with Balochistan Police on non-customs paid vehicles, under which legal action was also taken against those who use and buy and sell them.
Later, DIG Quetta Imran Shaukat formally handed over 24 non-custom vehicles to Collector Customs Balochistan Dr Karam Elahi at the police line.
On this occasion, DIG Quetta Imran Shaukat said that the non-custom paid vehicles were taken into custody during the ongoing campaign of Quetta Police, which were duly handed over to the customs authorities after fulfilling the legal requirements.
