GILGIT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Mar, 2026) A key meeting of the Special Apex Committee was held in Gilgit on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Muhammad Yar to review the prevailing law and order situation in the region.
The meeting took place at the Apex Committee Room in Jutial and was attended by the Commander FCNA, the Home Minister, the Chief Secretary, the Inspector General of Police, the Home Secretary, and other senior civil, military and law enforcement officials.
During the session, departments presented detailed reports on the loss of lives and damage to public and private property caused by violent protests over the past two days. The committee expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives of law enforcement personnel and damage to military posts and camps, allegedly carried out by miscreants who infiltrated protest gatherings and engaged in acts of terrorism.
The overall security and administrative measures across Gilgit-Baltistan were reviewed, and all institutions were directed to ensure coordinated and effective action to restore order.
The committee also reviewed the curfew imposed from March 2 to control the deteriorating security situation. The proposal to establish a judicial commission was discussed to identify elements responsible for disturbing peace and destabilising the region.
The meeting resolved that those involved in attacking government officials and damaging state property would be brought to justice, and the writ of the state would be upheld at all costs.
Participants emphasised that no compromise would be made on maintaining law and order, protecting public installations, and ensuring the safety of citizens. The government reaffirmed its commitment to taking all necessary measures to restore lasting peace in Gilgit-Baltistan.
