SPAL finalizes arrangements for grand cleanliness on Eidul Azha

The Suthra Punjab Agency Lahore (SPAL) has finalised all arrangements to manage the grand cleanliness during Eid-ul-Azha, launching a comprehensive sanitation plan to ensure the timely and environmental friendly disposal of animal waste across the city

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) The Suthra Punjab Agency Lahore (SPAL) has finalised all arrangements to manage the grand cleanliness during Eid-ul-Azha, launching a comprehensive sanitation plan to ensure the timely and environmental friendly disposal of animal waste across the city.

According to a press release issued here on Friday, the SPAL unveiled an extensive Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness strategy aimed at maintaining exemplary sanitation standards under the vision of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif and the “Suthra Punjab” initiative.

According to the plan, the leaves of more than 17,000 sanitary workers, drivers and support staff members have been cancelled to ensure uninterrupted cleanliness operations during Eid days. The agency will distribute over 1.5 million eco-friendly waste bags free of cost among citizens.

To facilitate residents and ensure the availability of environment friendly bags, as many as 319 Eid camps are being established across the city. Meanwhile, 103 temporary collection points have been set up for the disposal of offal, while 4 dumping sites at Lakhodair, Saggian, Tibba and Sundar have been activated for environmentally safe waste disposal.

A central control room has also been made operational for live digital monitoring of the grand Eid-ul-Adha cleanliness operation. The operational control room will ensure 24-hour live monitoring of vehicles and prompt resolution of public complaints.

Authorities will also use drone cameras to monitor and prevent the illegal dumping of animal waste into canals. Additional sanitation staff has been deployed at bus stands, wagon terminals, commercial markets and other public gathering points to maintain cleanliness during Eid holidays.

Cleaning operations will also be carried out on routes leading to Eidgahs, major Mosques and graveyards.

DG Babar Sahib Din said that cleaning operational teams of Suthra Punjab Agency Lahore are fully active to ensure cleanliness at 1,500 major Mosques, Eidgahs, 268 graveyards and all commercial markets in the city. He said that during Eid days, more than 23,000 personnel, including over 17,000 sanitary workers, more than 5,000 drivers and 1,000 support staff members, would work in three shifts.

Worker's attendance and regular tracking of vehicles would be strictly monitored to ensure timely cleanliness arrangements, he added.

The Suthra Punjab Authority DG said that workshop staff for cleaning operational machinery would remain available round the clock in all three shifts throughout the sanitation operation.

He further said that cleanliness awareness camps have already been established at cattle markets set up across Lahore.

Sanitation staff along with machinery has been deployed at cattle markets to carry out cleanliness operations, while awareness activities are also being organised to educate citizens about the proper disposal of animal waste in eco-friendly waste bags.

According to the SPAL, 100% of its vehicles and machinery would be utilized during the cleanliness operation. Under the Chand Raat operation, 23 excavators will be used, while 107 excavators will operate on the first day of Eid, 106 on the second day and 88 on the third day. Similarly, 68 trolleys will be deployed during the Chand Raat operation, followed by 187 on the first day of Eid, 179 on the second day and 62 on the third day. The agency will also utilize 29 loaders on Chand Raat, 73 on the first day of Eid, 69 on the second day and 30 on the third day.

Meanwhile, 50 dumpers will operate during the Chand Raat operation, while 358 dumpers on the first day of Eid, 344 on the second day and 179 on the third day will be used for lifting and disposing of animal waste.

Additionally, 637 extra pickup vehicles will remain deployed in neighbourhoods on the first and second days of Eid to collect sacrificial animals waste from streets and residential areas.

All essential cleaning operational equipment related to the Eid-ul-Azha sanitation drive has been provided at the town level. Cleanliness and washing of 189 designated sacrificial sites across the city would be ensured throughout the three Eid days.
