LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Feb, 2026) The Punjab government has decided to complete large-scale development schemes in 52 cities of the province under the Urban Development Program. Projects in 51 cities have been formally approved under the Sohna Punjab Program.
According to official documents, the total value of the approved projects is Rs 302 billion, while the total estimated cost of the program has been set at Rs 304 billion.
Under the program, 5397 kilometers of new sewerage lines will be laid across Punjab, while 181 kilometers of storm water drains will be constructed. In addition, a plan to increase the capacity of waste water treatment plants to 323 MGD is also included.
In addition, more than 33,000 manhole covers will be installed and 308 modern suction jetting machines will be provided to improve the sanitation system.
Similarly, 67 water supply schemes have been included in the Sohna Punjab program to ensure the supply of clean water to the citizens.
Likewise, 6100 kilometers of roads and street pavements will be constructed under the program. The project also includes improvement of parks, street lights and other civic amenities.
In this regard, tenders have been issued in 11 cities and development works have started, while in 17 cities, financial evaluation has been completed and contractors have been mobilized. Practical work has started in 10 more cities and the financial bidding process is underway in 13 cities.
