KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Feb, 2026) Sindh Madressatul islam University (SMIU) distributed 354 laptops among its students under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme Phase-IV in a ceremony on Thursday at SMIU's Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium, which was chaired by Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, Vice Chancellor of SMIU.
The vice chancellor along with deans of the university, including Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, and Dr. Stephen John, distributed the laptops among the students.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai talked about the importance of information technology, especially AI, and the use of computers by students for enrichment of their minds, their studies, and acquiring knowledge.
Dr. Sahrai said that empowering young minds in the era of AI is essential for the development of the country. He said Pakistan is one of a few countries in the world that have a young population in the majority; therefore, equipping them with technological tools shall benefit and strengthen the economy of the province of Sindh, Pakistan, and the world.
He added that students must use these machines for transforming their ideas for the development of the country and the welfare of the society.
The vice chancellor said this event is also a celebration of merit, as the recipients of the laptops were selected on a merit basis. Dr. Sahrai further said that laptops can empower and support students in their study and research work also. He said in this era, an absolute majority of youth are aware of the usage of these gadgets; hence, these laptops shall enhance their learning activities.
Dr. Sahrai appreciated the Federal Government and the Higher education Commission for connecting the students of the country with the new age by providing them laptops.
