Sindh Home Minister directs to establish Drone Surveillance Unit

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Feb, 2026) Sindh Home Minister, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar while chairing a high level meeting on Wednesday directed that drone surveillance be utilized in potentially sensitive areas of Karachi when required and ordered establishment of a dedicated Drone Surveillance Unit for this purpose.

The provincial minister reviewed the overall law and order situation in the province in the meeting held at the Central Police Office Karachi here, said a spokesperson.

The meeting was attended by senior police and security officials, including Javed Alam Odho.

During the meeting, the IGP Sindh briefed the Home Minister in detail on the current security situation, potential threats, and ongoing measures. The comprehensive security plan and preventive strategies were thoroughly reviewed.

Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed that Intelligence Reports (IRs) related to border areas be made purposeful and effective to ensure peace and stability.

He emphasized that proactive strategies should be developed on the basis of these reports to counter potential threats.

He further instructed that a coordinated and comprehensive strategy be formulated to curb banned organizations, sectarianism, and militancy.

Security of all key locations, including sensitive installations, must be ensured at an extraordinary level, he directed.

The Home Minister stressed the need to fully secure entry and exit points and to ensure foolproof security of mosques, madrasas, and imambargahs in consultation with their respective administrations.

He directed officers not to remain confined to their offices but to ensure their presence in the field and actively discharge their responsibilities. Instructions were also issued to intensify intelligence-based operations, snap checking, picketing, reconnaissance monitoring, patrolling, and checkpoint systems.

The Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar ordered a comprehensive security audit of important and sensitive installations and directed that detailed recommendations regarding the resource requirements of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) be submitted. These recommendations should include drones, modern vehicles, explosive detectors, and other advanced equipment.

He emphasized that further upgrading of the Special Branch is the need of the hour. He stated that the Special Branch would be assigned a frontline role in counterterrorism efforts and would be strengthened and modernized in line with contemporary requirements.

He added that the Special Branch would serve as the core wing of the province, and its intelligence reports would be made more reliable and robust to ensure sustainable peace and stability.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed all relevant institutions to maintain law and order at all costs through coordination, proactive planning, and integrated operations.

The meeting was attended by Additional IGs Karachi, CTD, Special Branch, DIGs CTD and Special Branch, CPLC Chief, SSP Operations-I CTD, and other senior officers.
