Sindh Govt celebrates Labour Day with commitment to worker’s rights: Hemnani

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st May, 2026) Sindh Government Spokesperson for Human Rights Sukhdev Hemnani paid tribute to workers across the province on International Labour Day, positioning labour rights as a core governance priority backed by policy action and measurable delivery.

in a message on Labour Day, he stated that Sindh is transitioning from an informal labour economy to a regulated, rights-based system where workers are documented, protected, and integrated into formal welfare structures.

Highlighting policy leadership, Hemnani said Sindh has set the benchmark through the Sindh Labour Policy 2018, driving enforcement on workplace safety, minimum wages, and elimination of exploitative practices.

He added that Sindh was the first province to legislate for home-based workers under the Sindh Home-Based Workers Act, 2018, extending legal cover to over 5 million individuals previously outside the system.

On delivery metrics, he shared that more than 850,000 workers are registered across 34,600+ establishments under the Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution, while labour healthcare facilities have served over 7.

2 million patients.

In parallel, the Sindh Workers Welfare Fund has disbursed over Rs. 60 billion through pensions, grants, and education support.

Addressing current economic pressures, he stated that amid rising inflation, the Sindh Government is actively working on a proposal to further increase the minimum wage in the upcoming provincial budget, reinforcing its commitment to protecting workers’ purchasing power.

He further highlighted institutional digitization through the Benazir Mazdoor Card, with 202,000+ workers onboarded, enabling streamlined access to healthcare, financial assistance, and social protection under a unified platform.

“Labour is not a slogan for Sindh — it is a policy pillar.

We are moving from intent to execution, ensuring every worker is visible, protected, and economically empowered,” Hemnani stated.
