Sindh Education Department has officially banned all forms of photography and videotaping in the government girl colleges. This resolution comes after some grave complaints of invasion of privacy in which the digital platforms were involved in distributing intimate pictures of students and staff.
The order, which was given by Professor Qazi Arshad Hussain Siddiqui, Director of College Education (Karachi Region), is to help contain the increasing abuse of images of female teachers and female students. Authorities noticed an alarming pattern of so-called stealth photography in which classroom shots were taken without permission and shared on WhatsApp groups and Facebook newsfeeds.

The Special Secretary of College Education stepped in due to the repeated cases of non-consent shooting that emerged according to the official circular. The department considers such acts to be a complete breach of the law and even the culture. The offenders have turned into the two sides of a coin, facing double the punishment: both the departmental penal and criminal law by the cybercriminal acts in Pakistan.
The advisory threatens that failure to comply would lead to severe measures being taken against the administration itself. Principals now need to make sure that safe zones exist ensuring that the integrity of the academic space is not exploited by the hands of the digital.
