Sialkot rally marks World Day Against Child Labour

SIALKOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jun, 2026) A rally was organised from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner Sialkot to mark the "World Day Against Child Labour", led by Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Muhammad Manshaullah Butt.

The rally was attended by Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Saba Asghar Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Abbas Zulqarnain, and Director Labour Sialkot Naveed Sarwar. Representatives of various labour unions, labour leaders, and members of civil society also participated.

The participants carried banners highlighting the importance of eliminating child labour and promoting children's right to education.

Addressing the participants, Provincial Labour Minister Muhammad Manshaullah Butt said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif envisions a province where no child is deprived of education. He stated that over the past several months, the Labour Department has rescued 3,200 children working at brick kilns in different cities across Punjab and enrolled them in 74 Labour Department schools throughout the province.

The minister said that these children are being provided with free education, uniforms, textbooks, and transportation facilities. In addition, they are receiving a monthly stipend to help compensate for the income they previously contributed to their families through labour.

Muhammad Manshaullah Butt further revealed that the provincial government has recruited 150 labour inspectors tasked with conducting inspections and identifying children engaged in child labour. He said the rescued children would be enrolled in educational institutions and provided with free education and financial support under government supervision.

He emphasized that no society can achieve sustainable development while children are forced to work instead of attending school.

The minister reiterated that the eradication of child labour is a key mission of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and the Punjab government is making dedicated efforts to achieve this goal across the province.
