KHANEWAL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Mar, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Maleeha Rasheed on Tuesday imposed penalties on many shopkeepers and manufacturers on charge of failure to honour various provisions of consumer protection act.
Presiding over a meeting of the District Consumer Protection Council (DCPC) to review enforcement of the Consumer Protection Act and address violations related to consumer rights, the DC and council members heard 96 cases mainly involving shopkeepers and manufacturers who failed to display official price lists of daily-use items, issue purchase receipts, or clearly mention the manufacturing and expiry dates on products.
The DC imposed fine on several manufacturers and shopkeepers for non-compliance with the relevant laws, observing that protection of consumers’ rights was the top priority of the administration and strict action would continue against those violating the law.
She directed shopkeepers to prominently display price lists of food items at their outlets, adding that failure to issue receipts and not indicating manufacturing and expiry dates on products constituted a violation.
She warned that stricter action would be taken in case of future violations to ensure effective implementation of consumer protection laws in the district.
