BUREWALA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Mar, 2026) Additional Inspector General Police (AIGP) South Punjab Muhammad Kamran Khan Monday imposed major penalty of dismissal from service on a sub inspector for torturing a retired inspector and his son and implicating them in false cases while he was posted as SHO of police station Sadar in Vehari last year.

Retired DSP Tanveer Ahmed Bhatti had filed a complaint alleging that his brother, retired inspector Zaheer Ahmed Bhatti and his son Rawal Zaheer were called to police station Sadar Vehari for investigations of a case where the SHO Sub-Inspector Rauf Iqbal misbehaved with them, physically assaulted them, smashed back screen of their car, took their mobile phones, detained them unlawfully and handcuffed, and falsely implicated them in three cases citing heinous nature offenses.

During inquiry conducted by RPO Multan, it emerged that Zaheer Bhatti and his son could not have committed the serious offenses mentioned in the FIR as they were in police custody on that day. Firearms were mentioned only to strengthen sections 392/506-B PPC. The SI also failed to produce mobiel phone having his video evidence and DVR footages of police station were also not provided to conceal the actual facts and evidence.

The RPO Multan found the then SHO PS Sadar Vehari guilty and awarded him punishment of pay reduction by one stage for two years on Dec 10, 2025.

Today’s order from AIGP South Punjab over-rides the order from RPO Multan wherein the delinquent SI was awarded punishment of reduction in pay.

The AIGP South Punjab recalled the above mentioned record of departmental proceedings against the SI. “Perusal of the record revealed that the punishment awarded by RPO Multan does not commensurate with the gravity of the charges,” the order said. “There were sufficient grounds to enhance the punishment.” The order said, minute perusal of the record showed the SI has been found guilty of blatant misuse of official authority, highhandedness, and has brought disrepute to the department. His written and verbal explanation has been found unsatisfactory and not acceptable. The punishment of pay reduction is enhanced and he is awarded major punishment of dismissal from service with immediate effect under the provisions of the Punjab Police (E7D) Rules 1975 on the charges of gross misconduct, ordered the AIGP South Punjab.
