According to the Comparative Heinous Crime Analysis report, issued by the City Police Officer's office here Friday, during the period from January 1 to April 23, 2026, heinous property-related crimes decreased by 57 per cent compared with the same period in 2025. The number of cases dropped from 8,899 last year to 3,492 this year, showing a reduction of 4,607 cases.

The overall crime situation in the district also improved considerably, with total registered cases declining by 48 per cent, from 21,552 in 2025 to 11,138 in 2026.

Police data indicates major progress in controlling street crime. Robbery cases decreased from 1,496 to 476, reflecting a 68 per cent reduction, while snatching incidents fell from 1,486 to 763, marking a decline of 49 per cent. House robbery and dacoity cases were reduced from 13 to five incidents during the period under review.

Vehicle-related crimes witnessed some of the most encouraging results. Car theft cases dropped from 29 to seven, motorcycle theft declined from 1,640 to 699, and vehicle snatching cases decreased from 438 to 131.

Notably, no case of car snatching was reported during 2026 so far.

Property crimes also registered a substantial decline. House burglary cases reduced from 39 to 13, shop theft cases from 555 to 326, and cattle theft incidents from 342 to 165.

In serious crime categories, murder cases declined from 38 to 31, while no incident of dacoity with murder was reported compared with two cases during the corresponding period last year. Gang rape cases also decreased from 14 to nine incidents.

The report noted that 132 cases were registered on April 23, 2026, compared with 84 cases on April 22; however, officials stated that the overall year-to-date trend remains strongly positive.

Overall, the district recorded 10,414 fewer cases, highlighting effective policing measures, intelligence-based operations, strengthened patrolling, and coordinated action against habitual offenders.

Police authorities reaffirmed their resolve to further strengthen law enforcement efforts and maintain a sustained decline in crime to ensure improved public safety and confidence across Multan district.
