KARACHI:

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has reacted strongly to MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar's press conference, accusing MQM of relying on "shortcut politics" instead of public mandate.

In a statement, Sharjeel Memon said using matters like federal intervention as political pressure is proof of MQM's political blackmail. "MQM has lost public trust and is now yearning for power. It is looking for shortcuts," he added.

He said MQM should not use Karachi's resources as a tool for political bargaining. Talking about handing over Sindh's affairs to the federation is a "malicious conspiracy against the federal structure," he stated.

"The people of Sindh have given a clear mandate to the Pakistan Peoples Party. This mandate cannot be changed by a press conference, threats, or political blackmail," the minister said. "Sindh, the 1973 Constitution, and the people's mandate are not a laboratory where parties attack whenever their politics weakens."

Sharjeel Memon said if MQM wants a bigger share in power, "the path goes through the people's vote." He questioned why MQM, despite being part of the federal government, had failed to deliver on its promises to Karachi.

"Dr Farooq Sattar should question his federal allies instead of blaming the Sindh government for his failures," he said.

The senior minister asserted there would be "no compromise on Sindh's constitutional rights, provincial autonomy, and Karachi's public mandate."
