LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th May, 2026) Convener of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Regional Committee on Food, Shahid Imran, on Tuesday stressed the urgent need to narrow the widening trade gap between Pakistan and nine regional countries through enhanced economic cooperation, export diversification and removal of trade barriers.
Speaking at a meeting with business leaders and exporters here, he said that regional trade remained far below its actual potential despite strong demand for Pakistani food products, fruits, vegetables, rice, snacks and processed food items in neighbouring markets.
He urged policymakers to formulate business-friendly strategies aimed at increasing exports, improving quality standards and facilitating ease of doing business for exporters.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Shahid said Pakistan possessed enormous potential in the food and agriculture sectors, which could significantly contribute to boosting exports and strengthening regional economic integration.
He said reducing the trade imbalance with regional economies would help stabilize foreign exchange reserves, create employment opportunities and accelerate industrial growth.
He also called for strengthening transport connectivity, simplifying customs procedures and promoting joint ventures among regional business communities.
He said coordinated efforts between government institutions and the private sector could open new avenues of trade and economic prosperity for Pakistan and the wider region.
