Shafi Jan calls for unified anti-terror strategy after Hangu attack

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Jul, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan on Thursday called for a coordinated national response to terrorism, urging the Federal government to undertake a comprehensive review of the National Action Plan in consultation with all provinces and stakeholders.

Speaking to reporters after visiting injured police personnel at Lady Reading Hospital here, the minister said terrorism remained one of the country's most pressing security challenges and required a unified, consensus-based strategy rather than unilateral decisions.

Shafi Jan, accompanied by MPA and Parliamentary Secretary for Forests Sher Ali Afridi, met police personnel wounded in the recent terrorist attack on a police check post in Hangu. He also met their family members and directed hospital authorities to ensure the provision of the best possible medical treatment.

Condemning the attack in the strongest terms, the minister said the sacrifice of police personnel would not go in vain and vowed that those attempting to undermine peace in the province would be dealt with firmly.

He paid tribute to the courage of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, saying the force had remained at the forefront of the fight against terrorism and continued to render unmatched sacrifices for the protection of the country.

The minister said the provincial government was strengthening the police force by increasing its operational capacity, providing modern equipment and enhancing financial resources. He noted that the police budget had been raised to Rs191 billion to improve the force's effectiveness against evolving security threats.

Referring to the broader security situation, Shafi Jan said terrorism had inflicted heavy economic losses on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and continued to affect the merged districts as well as other parts of the country. He stressed that a revised National Action Plan, backed by consensus among all provinces, would help formulate a more effective and sustainable counterterrorism strategy.

He also highlighted the recommendations of the Peace Jirga held by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, saying its unanimously approved proposals, including a provincial action plan, could provide a useful framework for strengthening national efforts against terrorism.
