ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) Member of the Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Special Committee and PML-N Senator Khalil Tahir Sandhu on Wednesday emphasized the importance of collective will, strict implementation of laws and awareness to curb honour killings across all provinces, urging parliamentarians, political stakeholders, institutions to work together for effective solutions with stronger protection of human rights.
Speaking exclusively with a local media outlet, PML-N Senator Khalil Tahir Sandhu highlighted the need to strengthen the justice system through protection of judges and witnesses.
Senator further explained every adult citizen who has reached the legal age of 18 has the right to make personal decisions, including marriage, but illegal practices and interference by Jirgas continue to create challenges.
He said the issue requires collective efforts from all segments of society, stressing that parliamentarians, political representatives and institutions must work together to create effective solutions and ensure protection of fundamental rights.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He further emphasized the role of women representatives in parliament and other forums, saying they should actively contribute to awareness campaigns and use their platforms to educate communities about legal rights, social justice, and the importance of ending harmful practices.
Senator PML-N said he was personally working on the issue and would continue to raise it on parliamentary forums, urging fellow politicians to take the matter seriously.
He said that despite progress and modernization, such outdated practices still exist and need to be addressed through collective efforts, awareness and effective legislation.
Responding a query, he explained that such practices are illegal under the law, adding that they were declared illegal and un-Islamic in 2019, emphasizing the need for strict implementation of laws to prevent such acts.
He said society must take this as a collective responsibility and show the will to reject wrong practices.
