Section 144 imposed across Punjab including Rawalpindi; Bathing in Rainwater, swimming and unauthorized boating banned

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jul, 2026) The Punjab government has imposed restrictions under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, across the province, including Rawalpindi, for 60 days to safeguard human lives during the ongoing monsoon season.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, bathing in accumulated rainwater on streets, roads, open spaces and other public places has been prohibited. Swimming in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, lakes and distributaries, as well as unauthorized boating in these water bodies, has also been banned.

A spokesperson for the Home Department said that heavy monsoon rains have led to the accumulation of water in low-lying areas, streets and open spaces, significantly increasing the risk of drowning, falling into concealed pits and being swept away by strong currents, particularly for children and young people.

The spokesperson added that water levels in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, lakes and distributaries across the province have risen due to recent rainfall.

Fast currents, deep waters and unpredictable conditions make swimming and unauthorized boating extremely dangerous.

The restrictions have been imposed under Section 144 by the Secretary Home, Punjab, to prevent accidents and protect public safety, especially that of children and youth.

The notification directs all deputy commissioners, district administrations and law enforcement agencies to ensure strict implementation of the order. Authorities have also been instructed to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign to encourage compliance with the restrictions and help citizens avoid unnecessary risks during the monsoon season.

The Home Department has urged the public to stay away from accumulated rainwater and water bodies unless necessary and to strictly follow official safety advisories.
