MAKKAH MUKARRAMAH, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) in Saudi Arabia has issued a weather alert predicting high-velocity, dust-laden winds and intense daytime heat across several regions of the country. The warning comes as hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from across the globe arrive in Makkah and Madinah ahead of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

According to the NCM, daytime weather across Makkah, Madinah, and the highways connecting the holy sites will remain stable but exceptionally hot. Temperatures are projected to soar to 47°C in Makkah and 44°C in Madinah. In open areas, humidity levels are expected to hover around 40%, with forecasts predicting blowing dust.

Meanwhile, parts of Najran, Riyadh, the Eastern Province, the Northern Borders region, Al-Jouf, and Tabuk may face high-velocity winds carrying dust and sand.

Conversely, thunderstorms are anticipated in the mountainous regions of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and parts of Makkah.

In light of the severe weather conditions, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), quoting officials, has urged travelers and pilgrims to thoroughly inspect their vehicles before embarking on any journeys. Pilgrims have also been strongly advised to stay hydrated, consume plenty of water and fluids, and strictly adhere to all safety guidelines.

With at least 1.6 million pilgrims expected in Makkah for this year's Hajj, authorities are prioritizing public safety against the extreme weather. While the core rituals of Hajj are performed within Makkah and its surrounding holy sites, the vast majority of pilgrims traditionally travel to Madinah either before or after the pilgrimage due to its profound spiritual and historical significance.
