SAU Professor Dr Aasia Akbar Panhwar completes postdoctoral fellowship in the USA

HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Dr Aasia Akbar Panhwar, Associate Professor at the Institute of Food Sciences and Technology, Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam has successfully completed a prestigious postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, USA, in the field of biosensing for food quality and safety.

According to a press release issued by the university spokesperson, Dr Panhwar conducted advanced research under the supervision and collaboration of Prof Dr Sundaram Gunasekaran, a globally recognised expert in food engineering and biosensing technologies.

During her fellowship, Dr Aasia Panhwar worked on innovative technologies for rapid food safety analysis, real-time pesticide monitoring, and the development of low-cost portable electrochemical sensing systems for food quality assessment.

Her research focused on strengthening food safety systems and developing practical scientific solutions for the agriculture and food sectors.

Throughout her academic career, Dr Panhwar has made significant contributions in the fields of post-harvest management, value addition of fruits and vegetables, food safety, pesticide residue mitigation and the development of innovative food products from mango, banana, chilli, date, potato, onion, molasses and indigenous vegetables. She has supervised numerous postgraduate research projects and has published extensively in national and international scientific journals.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Panhwar said that the knowledge and experience gained during the fellowship would be utilized to promote modern analytical techniques, enhance food safety awareness, advance value-added food processing technologies and foster collaborative international research initiatives for the benefit of students, researchers, farmers and the food industry in Pakistan.
