SAU, CUVAS sign MoU to promote livestock sector, indigenous breeds

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Feb, 2026) The Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam and Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the development of the livestock sector and encourage the preservation and growth of rare and indigenous animal breeds.

According to the SAU spokesperson, a ceremony was held at the university’s senate hall where vice chancellor of SAU Prof Dr Altaf Ali Siyal and vice chancellor of (CUVAS) Dr Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.

Addressing the ceremony, Prof Dr Altaf Ali Siyal said that instead of increasing reliance on foreign breeds, there was a pressing need to focus on the promotion of rare and local breeds of the region. He said enhancing research in the livestock sector was essential, and the agreement with Cholistan University had been signed with this objective.

He further stated that a training workshop on artificial insemination was being organized at Sindh Agriculture University. Moreover, diploma courses in livestock and poultry would soon be launched to provide technical education and skills to our youth.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz said that efforts would be made to bring the breeding of local and improved livestock up to international standards through research. He highlighted the role of livestock in human life and urged the need to expand research activities to meet the demand for milk and meat.

He added that the agreement would serve as an important milestone in strengthening academic and research collaboration between the two institutions including the exchange of faculty members, students and researchers as well as the promotion of joint training initiatives. Prof Dr Zaheer Ahmed Nizamani and Prof Dr Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar were also present at the ceremony.
