Pakistan red-ball coach and former Test Captain Sarfraz Ahmed says Pakistan's immediate focus was to deliver positive results in the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies cricket team
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 8th, 2026) Pakistan red-ball head coach and former Test captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has said that Babar Azam was appointed captain after extensive consultation and with his consent, expressing confidence that the team would perform strongly under his leadership.
Speaking to reporters at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, Sarfaraz said Pakistan's immediate focus was to deliver positive results in the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies cricket team.
He added that the team was also aiming for an improved performance in the three-match Test series against the England cricket team, noting that both assignments are part of the ICC World Test Championship and hold significant importance.
The red-ball head coach said the national training camp in Islamabad would focus on improving players' technical skills and addressing weaknesses identified in previous performances.

Sarfaraz expressed hope that Pakistan would play with greater unity, determination and confidence under Babar Azam's captaincy and achieve encouraging results in the upcoming Test fixtures.
Commenting on sports journalism, the former captain said there had been a significant change in media practices over the years. He noted that journalists previously evaluated players primarily on their performances on the field, and stressed that criticism should remain focused on cricket rather than personal lives or character.
