A final decision on whether Shan Masood will continue as Test captain or be replaced is expected in the coming weeks, say sources

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-June 10th, 2026) Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is set to continue as Pakistan's Test head coach for the upcoming tours of the West Indies and England, a local private tv reported while citing the sources.

Sarfaraz recently completed his first assignment in the role during Pakistan's Test series against Bangladesh, where the national side suffered a 2-0 defeat, resulting in Bangladesh's first-ever home Test series whitewash over Pakistan.

Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over the future of Test captain Shan Masood, although he remains a strong contender to lead the side on both tours. Sources said a final decision regarding the captaincy has yet to be taken.

Masood, a left-handed batter with 46 Test appearances, has captained Pakistan in 16 Test matches. During his tenure, he has led the team in seven Test series, securing one victory, suffering four defeats and drawing two series. He is currently placed in the Pakistan Cricket board's D category for captains.

Sources further revealed that T20I captain Salman Ali Agha is expected to be included in the Test squad for the England tour, which would mark his first Test tour of the country.

The all-rounder has represented Pakistan in 25 Test matches and reportedly enjoys strong support within the PCB's decision-making circles.

Masood, who previously toured England in 2016 and 2020, also brings valuable county cricket experience, having captained Yorkshire and Derbyshire. His familiarity with English playing conditions and media environment is considered a significant advantage ahead of the series.

A final decision on whether Shan Masood will continue as Test captain or be replaced is expected in the coming weeks.

Pakistan are scheduled to face the West Indies in a two-Test series in Trinidad and Tobago from July 25 to 29 and August 2 to 6. The team's subsequent tour of England is expected to begin on August 19 at Headingley, followed by matches at Lord's on August 27 and Edgbaston on September 9, although the official itinerary is yet to be confirmed.
