Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed set to become Pakistan Test team head coach. Sources confirm PCB decision; official announcement soon. He starts with Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test series in May 2026 as part of ICC World Test Championship 2027. Vacant since October 2025 after Azhar Mahmood’s interim role.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to appoint former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed as the new head coach of the Pakistan Test cricket team. An official announcement will come soon.

Sarfaraz Ahmed will take charge during Pakistan’s upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh in May 2026. This series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship 2027 cycle. The first Test starts on May 8, and the second on May 16.

The Pakistan Test team head coach position stayed vacant since October 2025. Azhar Mahmood handled interim duties in the recent series against South Africa.

Sarfaraz Ahmed brings strong credentials to the role. He currently mentors the Pakistan Shaheens (A team), including their T20 and 50-over tour against England Lions in the UAE. He also mentored the Asia Cup-winning Under-19 side.

As a player, Sarfaraz Ahmed led Pakistan to the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy title. He played 54 Tests (3,031 runs, 4 hundreds, 21 fifties), 117 ODIs (2,315 runs), and 61 T20Is (818 runs).

This appointment ends months of instability in the red-ball setup. The PCB aims to add continuity to Pakistan’s Test cricket after recent coaching changes.
