Safety nets installed in 2,000 manholes of the city in initial phase

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2026) For the first time, the process of installing special safety iron nets inside the manholes of the city has started.

In the initial phase, safety nets have been installed inside 2,000 manholes. This special safety net is capable of bearing a weight of up to three hundred kilograms. Due to which, even if the cover of a manhole disappears, citizens will be safe from falling straight into the sewer.

According to WASA officials, this modern safety system will not only ensure the safety of human lives but will also not affect the cleaning process.

WASA Director Mudassar Javed says that this is a low-cost and effective safety method, which can be easily removed and the sewer lines can also be cleaned.

According to officials, in the past, many citizens have lost their lives due to open manholes, while many people have also been injured.

This project was started to reduce this risk. Such safety measures in urban areas are the need of the hour, because most manholes prove to be dangerous for citizens during rains and emergencies.

WASA says that more manholes in the city will also be brought under this safety system in phases, so that a safe environment can be provided to citizens.
