Safety equipment made mandatory in public transport

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jun, 2026) The DIG Traffic has issued orders to the officers concerned, making the presence of emergency safety equipment mandatory in all public service vehicles (PSVs).

In this regard, SSP Headquarters Traffic, Syed Nadeem Abbas, has issued a formal letter to all Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs), in which it has been directed to ensure the availability of safety equipment in public transport vehicles.

According to the letter, it will be mandatory to have a fire extinguisher in every public service vehicle to deal with fire emergencies. Apart from this, it has also been made necessary to keep an emergency hammer, torch and first aid box in every vehicle to help and rescue passengers in any emergency situation.

According to officials, the presence of reflective triangular cones and towing ropes will also be mandatory in PSV vehicles to ensure safety measures in case of accidents or breakdowns.

DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir has clarified that legal action will be taken against public transport vehicles plying without safety equipment. He said that road safety laws will be strictly implemented to ensure the safety of human lives and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.
