Safe City cameras help cut crime by 41pc in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Mar, 2026) The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has helped significantly reduce crime in Rawalpindi, with offences in

monitored areas dropping by 41 per cent.

According to a PSCA spokesman on Monday, the reduction was achieved with the assistance of Safe City

cameras and the support of the Rawalpindi Police across the district.

In the core areas covered by the Safe City surveillance system, crime registered a 41 per cent decline, while

the overall crime rate across the district dropped by 28 per cent.

The spokesman said the surveillance system also helped reunite 1,262 missing children and elderly persons

with their families.

Of them, 945 were children and 317 elderly persons, including mentally challenged individuals, who were traced

through calls to the Police Helpline 15 and information received via social media.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Government has also installed panic buttons along with free Wi-Fi facilities at various

locations, enabling citizens to alert the police immediately in case of an emergency by contacting the helpline.
