KOHAT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Mar, 2026) The Safe City Attock project, which became fully operational in December 2024, has significantly improved crime prevention and traffic management across the district, the local correspondent of APP reported this from Kohat on Wednesday, citing official sources.

According to authorities, the installation of modern surveillance infrastructure and advanced crime-tracking technology has helped reduce crime in the city by nearly 40 percent. The system enables law-enforcement agencies to monitor activities across key locations through live feeds and respond quickly to suspicious incidents.

Officials said the enhanced monitoring has also improved traffic flow and management, providing greater convenience for commuters. In view of the country’s security environment, the cameras are also used to monitor religious gatherings, processions, and major public events, including those held during Rabi' al-Awwal, with the support of AI-based surveillance technology to maintain law and order.

As part of the initiative, panic buttons have been installed at several public locations and in all government girls’ colleges in Attock. In case of an emergency, individuals without access to a mobile phone can press the panic button to connect directly with the police helpline for immediate assistance.

Authorities also introduced free Wi-Fi services at selected public places to facilitate citizens and enable quick access to emergency services. Officials described the project as a major step by the Government of Punjab under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz Sharif to enhance public safety and strengthen law-and-order conditions in the district.
